what we’re doing

First, we're creating this website to invite and facilitate the conversation. Everyone is invited to participate, from moms and dads to teachers, academics, social commentators, behaviorists — anyone who cares about girls' well being. We want to hear your ideas, opinions, points of view — in short the unfiltered truth.

But this is just the start. We are creating an Advisory Council to provide guidance and direction for We Believe in Girls. It will provide an internationally diverse point of view, focused on what's happening now and what's next for girls and girlhood around the world. Long term, the Advisory Council will serve as a sounding board for philanthropic and nonprofit initiatives — including scholarships and endowments. If you have any suggestions about what the Advisory Council should focus on or who it should include please let us know.

In partnership with Cheryl Dellasega, PhD (mother of 3, founder of Club Ophelia, author of Surviving Ophelia, Girl Wars, Mean Girls Grown Up and a new fiction series for girls, Bloggrls), we are fielding a research study spanning 10 countries to better understand what contributes to a healthy and happy girlhood worldwide.

This survey of 2,000 moms with daughters between the ages of 6 and 12 will explore regional similarities and differences in what mothers want and need to be able to better provide for their daughters. Click here here to tell us what questions you would like us to ask moms around the world.

In the coming months we will be developing further programs and projects to address the needs of girls and their parents everywhere. We invite you to join us in shaping these activities.
